Where Pasco criminal cases are heard
Pasco County is part of the Sixth Judicial Circuit, together with Pinellas County. Cases from the west side of the county are heard at the West Pasco Judicial Center, 7530 Little Road in New Port Richey. Cases from the east side are heard at the courthouse in Dade City. Where your case is heard usually depends on where the arrest happened.
What happens after an arrest in Pasco
- First appearance. If you are held in jail, you see a judge within 24 hours. The judge reviews probable cause and sets bond and conditions of release.
- Filing decision. The State Attorney’s Office for the Sixth Circuit decides what charges, if any, to file.
- Arraignment. You are formally told the charges. In many cases I can file a written plea of not guilty for you.
- Pretrial. I review the evidence, take depositions, file motions and negotiate. I also look at whether you qualify for a diversion program.
- Trial or resolution. If the State cannot prove the case, I am ready to try it.
